The year is 1892 and Colonel (Retired) William Paul is living out his golden years in a small university town where he once taught history at Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Colonel Paul often finds himself at the local cemetery where he sits in solitude near the graves of some unnamed Texas soldiers who may very well have fought with him in the Civil War. Still fighting the demons of that war some thirty years later, he wonders if he will ever be at peace.
One of his closest associates is young Dr. George Petrie who has recently taken on the task of preparing a team of college men to face a different kind of battle in a brand new sport called football. A train ride to Atlanta to Piedmont Park where the match will be played turns into a memorable and life-changing experience for all involved.
Join the two men as they travel to take their place in history by participating in the very first game in what is now one of the South's oldest rivalries.
