Liz Hernandez Hanna was born in the county of Los Angeles and raised in Wilmington, California.

Beyond the Broken Gates is her true and raw testimony growing up in Wilmington; the scandalous life of Sapphire, The Stripper, and her short lived romance with her Egyptian lover. In a state of desperation and hopelessness, pregnant and abandoned, she found faith followed by a trajectory of transformation through education, faith and re-discovery of self.

Today, Liz is a Chicana leader in higher education, a social justice advocate for underrepresented populations and a woman of faith.
