After several miscarriages, artist Rachel Ramirez paints Nina, the daughter she never had, chronicling her development from birth to womanhood. The eldest Nina awakens, watching life beyond her painting and wanting desperately to join the world outside. After Rachel's untimely death, Nina has the chance to step out of her painting, into the real world. She is given one year to experience the wonders and challenges of life, friendship, and love.

Will it all be too much for her or will her heart open to the beautiful colors of the world she once longed to experience?
