This is Sir Georg Solti’s first complete Beethoven cycle and recorded between May 1972 and September 1974 in Chicago during his first years as Music Director there (an appointment he took up in 1969). The original LP release included a 50 minute discussion in which Solti discusses the symphonies with the celebrated writer and musicologist William Mann. It is now included here on CD for the first time and the set is reissued to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Solti’s death in 1997.
