This collection of greatest hits by the platinum-selling country singer spans most of the '90s, from one of his first massive hits, the poignant "I Love the Way You Love Me," to 1999's song of the working man "Home to You." John Michael Montgomery ploughs a pretty mainstream furrow, even for a top selling '90s country artist, but he's got the art form down to a "T." As the title suggests, there are no road anthems the likes of BRAND NEW ME's "I Love It All" to be found here, but Montgomery performs creditably on songs such as "I Can Love You Like That" and especially on the delicate "Oh How She Shines," archetypal weepy country par excellence. LOVE SONGS is a winning collection that displays a singular facet of this singer's talent, and leaves the listener eager for more.
