"Curator" Phillip Lehman (as the shrink wrap sticker on the release refers to him) had mentioned that he was working on an African Music Today compilation in Big Daddy Magazine and on the now defunct Deep Funk message board around 2002.
Three 7 inch vinyl singles followed on Lenar / Soul Fire in 2002 and one on Lenar / Truth & Soul in 2004 of which two displayed the tag line "African Music Today Series".
Phillip disappeared from the music scene and went cave diving until the "African Music Today" compilation was announced as a "digital-only release" in February 2009 on the Truth & Soul website and became available on iTunes.
It wasn't until August 2010 that the CD version was released.
