"Pahoehoe" is the Hawaiian name for lava that cools in smooth but flowing shapes.
Lava is a continuous, hour-long piece for Brass Quartet, Four Percussion and Live Electronics, composed in 1992. The indexes and titles are provided for cueing, but there are no breaks between them.
Lava was Commissioned by New Langton Arts of San Francisco with support from the Wallace A. Gerbode Foundation. Thanks to Rennie Pritikin and Shauna O'Donnell of NLA.
