These field recordings were made as part of surveys undertaken by the Tihāmah Expedition, a multidisciplinary project which brought together a team in 1982 to study the music, history, architecture, ethnography, flora and fauna of the Red Sea coastal plain of what was, at that time, the Yemen Arab Republic.
The photographs were taken in 1974.
