"When stereo was introduced, it was big news whenever a major artists's hit recordings were made available in stereo for the first time. To meet the demand for stereo when only mono masters existed, artists often completely re-recorded their hits in stereo, or labels used questionable techniques to poorly simulate stereo. If only they had known that spectral editing technology would one day make it possible to precisely isolate the voices and instruments in mono recordings and mix them into true stereo!

The knowledge probably wouldn't have prevented all those re-recordings and electronically re-channeled abominations from being created, but it might have given patient music lovers some peace of mind.
