The compositions 1. and 4. are excerpts from a commission I received in early 2006 from the Syracuse International Film Festival. I was asked to write a 90-minute score that featured improvisation for Edward Sloman's 1925 silent film drama "His People". The April 2006 premiere at the Palace Theater in Syracuse, New York featured Chris Lightcap, Tony Malaby, drummer Tom Rainey and percussionist/timpanist Laurence Luttinger. I'd like to acknowledge and thank festival director Owen Shapiro as well as Laurence for this opportunity, which had a marked influence on the direction and sound of "Green-Wood".
