WHAT IS EXTREME FLUTE?
Mix Brazilian, Afro-Cuban and Latin rhythms with traditional jazz improvisations, add soft dream-like vocals, dynamic percussionists and a trombone to leader Bill McBirnie's flute, alto flute and piccolo plus Bruce Jones' guitars, percussion, synth pads and vocals to produce one very lovely and eclectic CD.
Bruce Jones grew up and studied music in Brazil and plays like a real native while Bill McBirnie is one of Canada's top jazz flutists.
Heavenly sounds abound throughout this fascinating journey from mid-tempo, ballads to exciting rhythms, mostly Brazilian, with a touch of jazz and Afro-Cuban elements. This work will appeal to a broad range of listeners because it is both exhilarating and relaxing. Highly recommended. DOUG WILLISON
Extreme Flute is a beautiful combination of improvised flute work, hypnotic harmonies and percussive elements that reflects the rich traditions of both Western (jazz) and World (Brazilian as well as a dash of Cuban) folkloric idioms.
The project is is centered around the extraordinary skill of flutist, Bill McBirnie, as well as the accomplished writing and arranging skills of his collaborator, Bruce Jones.
The focus is on Bill's unique facility as both a flutist and improviser as well as the novelty of the flute as a strong and central voice in what is an arresting format. This result is also achieved through the remarkable freshness of Bruce's singular writing and performance skills. The outcome of their partnership speaks to – as well as it satisfies – an increasingly prevalent awareness of and interest in both Jazz and World Beat music.
Listen to and bask in the sounds of this collaboration. Surrender to the sonority of this unusual blend, a sonority that induces moods ranging from soothing to exhilarating but with an ambience that consistently conveys a dream-like charm.

DESVIO (DETOUR)
- English Lyrics -
As if you already didn't know
Of all these things about my love
As if you already didn't know
Of all these things of my past and sadness
I just can't explain to you
I don't understand
A detour in the road
A scene
A drama
A great passion
(I don't want anything...I just want everything...)
