AlephFrom booklet (last page):
These tracks were written and recorded on an analogue 8 track reel to reel machine during 1988-89. For release on CD these tapes were cleaned up, remixed, and new vocal takes recorded. The exceptions are Curtain Dream and Night Sky Sweet Earth which are newer versions recorded in 1999.
The
first CD edition of Speak was issued by Italian label Materiali Sonori in 1999, and comprised the first 12 tracks on this disc. The Hidden Art Of Man Ray is from the same era, but was not included on the Materiali Sonori edition since the original master tapes no longer exist and it was therefore not possible to remix and denoise as with the other pieces. A lengthy ambient piece was also difficult to sequence amongst the predominantly short vocal pieces. However, since then the track was cleaned up as best as possible and was briefly available on a now deleted compilation CD. It is now included here as an appendix to the original running order.
