"This box set represents a mirror image of the Anthology of American Folk Music's tracklist. However, the producers have omitted the following tracks due to lyrics containing racist language: track 5 on disc 1, track 4 on disc 2, and track 16 on disc 4."

"In 1952, Folkways Records published the six-Lp series, The Anthology of American Folk Music, compiled by eccentric record collector Harry Smith. Many Historians cite Smith's reissue - with the recordings from the 1920s and '30s, its quirky liner notes, esoteric art work, and design - as an impetus for the folk music revival of the 1950s and '60s.

The Harry Smith B-Sides offers an alternative-universe listening experience and the closing of a collector's circle. Sequenced in the same order that Smith created, this box set features the flip side of each record he selected from his collection for the original Anthology.
