Many college courses are good at presenting particular disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, etc.), but not the details of science itself. Science literacy for educated citizens and for professional scientists requires an understanding of science itself. Written at an introductory college level, this book provides on overview of what science is, the philosophy of science, how research is done, how scientists interact, ethics and misconduct, scientific thinking, and pseudoscience. It has been used as a supplementary textbook in introductory science classes, as the main text in classes about science, and as background reading to spark discussions in advanced undergraduate and graduate courses.
