This exciting tale of a young, brown pelican being thrown off course in a hurricane describes his adventures while finding his way back to the ocean he calls home.
As he travels, he experiences danger, loneliness, and injury, but he also realizes that companionship and a helping hand can make life better. Jethro learns about friends and families as he observes life around him and makes his way back to Grandmommy's Ocean.
Mrs. Rhyne, a retired elementary school teacher, has tried to instill the love of books and reading in her own three children and her hundreds of elementary students. She taught for over three decades.
The idea for Jethro's Journey Back to Grandmommy's Ocean came to her while she was going through chemotherapy for breast cancer. Oftentimes she could not sleep, and she would form the story in her head. The name, Grandmommy's Ocean, came from real life when her family would travel to see her parents at the beach. The children referred to Jacksonville Beach, Florida as Grandmommy's Ocean. Many other family members began using the term as well.
Mrs. Rhyne resides in Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband of 51 years. She enjoys reading, travel, Bible study, and cooking for her family and friends. Her hobbies include collecting crystal, Hummels, pelican figures, and lighthouses.
