Interesting notes by Andrew Lloyd Webber in the booklet :
"When I was asked to remaster "Jesus Christ Superstar" I was excited.
Although the original British vinyl was much better and brighter than the American it was mastered decades ago. Here was a chance to go back to the masters and re-EQ them for today.
Then I discovered that the original masters had been lost, possibly in a fire at Universal USA a few years ago. Only three of the original 16-track tapes survived out of the twenty from which the masters were mixed. Sadly these three did not contain any unreleased materials. There was a never before heard sequence I had hoped to find. It looked like the project had stalled.
Then a search through my archives unearthed a complete copy set of the final masters that I had forgotten I owned. But I instantly remembered them when I saw the boxes because our engineer Alan O'Duffy had written on them "Handle With Love".
This remastered "Superstar" is the result of many hours of trial and error but I hope it has been worth it.
The new EQ means keen ears will detect the odd dodgy edit. And at one point you may hear a mistakenly mixed distant "count in"! But I hope this is outweighed by the new life that this remastering has brought to those old tapes."
