Willie Nelson, on country's cutting edge in 1978, startled Columbia Records executives when he announced plans to record an album of pop standards he'd loved for decades, hoping to reintroduce those timeless songs to audiences old and new. With Memphis R&B legend Booker T. Jones producing and arranging, the result, "Stardust", became a landmark, its appeal spanning generations.
