notes

This CD is a compilation of selections from three previously-issued Chiaroscuro LPs, one issued in 1975 and the other two as a 2-LP set in 1976. "We [the Producers] have tried to condense these three fine LPs to one CD in a sensible fashion. [ . . . ] The final selection was made by Chuck Israels. He knows the material better than anyone else, and it just seemed to make sense. He had made the original selections in 1975 and 1976 and sequenced the material as well. We retained Chuck's original sequence, merely dropping the tunes he'd eliminated. We have also retained the original liner notes by Martin Williams, Dan Morgenstern, and Chuck's program notes for CR 140." (from Program Booklet)
