Someone Special
Quirky, quick and mostly queer, The Bobbleheads are San Francisco's premier bubblegum pop trio and they bring you their latest round of riffs and rock, Two Guitars, Open Fire. The EP’s name is taken from the 1959 Johnny Mathis album, Open Fire, Two Guitars, but their styles couldn’t be more different. Two Guitars, Open Fire sews together a blend of pedal-to-the-metal production and bubblegum sensibilities, planting the Bobbleheads firmly on their unique sonic soil. Their glee-club vocals and technical proficiency proliferate throughout the short but oh so sweet 4 song EP. The band is exploring alternative methods of the music business, releasing this as the first of three EP’s, rather than a traditional full length CD. Recorded by fan and friend Chris Xefos (King Missile, Moth Wranglers) in San Francisco.
Formed in 2003, the Bobbleheads, John Ashfield (guitar, vocals), Phil Bulan (drums, vocals), Pat Ennis (bass) have been delighting audiences with their songs of playful yet adult elementary-school infused pop. Their melodies will stick with you long after the song is over, but don’t confuse catchy with kitschy. Their bottom line is held down by Phil’s rock solid drumming and Pat’s technically precise bass lines. John’s lyrics reveal they are happy music geeks, making the perfect 3-minute song and having fun along the way. According to The Bobbleheads, the world isn’t such a bad place after all.
In 2005 the band’s CD Automatic Fun won the Out Music Award for Best New Recording.
