Clavier
…Time Goes By (Casablanca)
"Billboard" provides an overview of pop music history in the United States through time-lapse impressions of the 857 #1 hits to appear on the Billboard Hot 100 from 1958 through the millennium. "Clavier" consists of 96 'moments' derived from compressing the preludes and fugues in the two books of The Well-Tempered Clavier of J.S. Bach. "…Time Goes By" is a 10-minute sonic landscape drawing on one of the great pieces of 20th Century cinema, the 1942 film "Casablanca."
The enhanced CD offers a Quicktime version of "Billboard," with text indicating which hit song is being processed at each moment.
All tracks realized and mixed at the Computer Music Center, Columbia University, New York City, August 2005-February 2006.
Source material and lending facilities provided by The Avery Fischer Center for Music and Media, New York University.
Music rendered using Cycling'74's Max/MSP/Jitter.
