The University of South Carolina Marching Band (The Carolina Band) is one of the premiere college bands in the country. Steeped in rich tradition, "The Mighty Sound of the Southeast" performs fun and exciting music designed to reach a wide-ranging audience by highlighting both traditional school songs and pop music genres from decades throughout the 20th and 21st Centuries. The Carolina Band performs for home football games at Williams-Brice Stadium in front of over 81,000 cheering fans and travels with the Gamecock football team to all away games. Performing regularly for millions on national television, recent highlights include appearances at the 2012 Capital One Bowl and the 2013 Outback Bowl. Established in 1920, the Board of Trustees officially approved the Carolina Band as a student-initiated organization and in September of 1921, the first band was formed with fewer than twenty students. Today, The Carolina Band has 325 students representing over 60 majors and 19 states and is under the direction of Dr. Rebecca Phillips, Director of Athletic Bands and Mr. Jayme Taylor, Assistant Director. As it has done for over 90 years, The Carolina Band entertains fans, represents the University and State of South Carolina on a national stage, and provides a musical outlet for thousands of Carolina students. We hope that you enjoy our musical highlights from the 2012 Gamecock Football Season! GO GAMECOCKS!!
