Album notes: The pieces contained here were not originally intended for public release. They have been made available due to feedback received from these works being heard on several internet sites & radio stations.
All of the instruments on this recording were played by Gary Hayden. There are no software drum "loops" or programs involved. All of the instruments were played by hand.
"The Palisades Suite" is from 2001 and is a digitally recorded piece feature multiple overdubs of guitars, hand percussion , synthesizer and ocarina . This is the most recent piece recorded on this collection. It was inspired by the scenic views, cliffs, trails and parks along the New Jersey Palisades. On the other side of the river one can see New York City. The different sections of the piece represent the moods of the different times of day, or even seasons, of this area.
The remaining 2 pieces both date from the 1990's and were recorded directly to cassette tape with no intention of being released publicly. They have been 'cleaned up" as much as possible to improve the sound quality from the original sources.
"Evening Guitar" was done mostly live using an acoustic guitar and delay device. Only a short part of electric guitar at the end was overdubbed. This piece has a type of "end of the day" mood.
"Ambient Guitar" is a nearly 29-minute piece all done live using only a single acoustic guitar and looping/delay device. The end result sounds much like a synthesizer or other electronic instrument.
After 2001's "Palisades Suite" all playing and composing stopped for over 8 years. It was only with the advent of WWW sites like MySpace and YouBloom and internet radio that enabled this existing music to be heard. The feedback from these sites has resulted in this music being made available to the public....
