Spero Sun has had a predisposition to depression and anxiety since she was born. In 2014 she plunged into the deepest stage of her depression, to a point of dysfunction and needing constant care. After recovering from that dark stage, Spero returned to Vancouver to start her new life. To help her cope with her emotional instabilities, she started a journal, which she later compiled into this book.
Depression and anxiety can be lifelong struggles for a lot of people. In this book Spero shares her daily coping skills, adopted attitudes, deep insights, and observations to emphasize with those who are also struggling with mental illness, to keep them company, and to encourage them to be honest with themselves. She believes she is able to best express her complex emotions in poetic form.
Spero believes positivity is very important in terms of gaining inner strength, but if we are not honest with ourselves, a positive attitude will eventually sap us dry. Being honest, humbly accepting weaknesses, being open-minded to new concepts and suggestions, and carefully listening to and examining the subtle voices in our hearts are methods Spero believes will gradually lead to a meaningful and profound existence.
