The tie-in publication for the major exhibition at the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid, Drawings by Francisco de Goya brings together around 250 drawings by Goya from the Prado's archive, as well as public and private collections around the world.
Since the publication of the definitive catalogue raisonné on Goya's drawings in 1973, the number of drawings attributed to Goya has changed, giving rise to the need for this new volume, which updates two centuries' worth of information on the subject. This book is the result of the research undertaken for the publication of a new catalogue raisonné of Goya's drawings, one of the keystones of the Prado's collection and one to which the Prado has devoted significant attention. Presented as a chronological survey of his drawings throughout his career, from Italian Sketchbook to the Bordeaux Albums, this text offers an up-to-date vision of the ideas that reappear in Goya's work and reveals the ongoing relevance of his thinking.
