Max the City Dog tells his story in the first person. Max lives in Brooklyn and enjoys going on the subway to Coney Island Beach with his "people family". He explores the beach area taking in the local scenes and landmarks, basks in the sun, walks the boardwalk and races along the water's edge with his pal Joey. He has many friends at the beach including the local lifeguards who all know him. In the late afternoon on the shore, Max spots Joey in the ocean having trouble in the big waves. Max barks frantically and runs up and down the beach to alert the lifeguards.
Joey is rescued and Max is a hero!
Later, Max goes home tired, knowing that he helped save the day and his friend is OK!
Max the City Dog is a great book for young children five to eight years old, who have pets in the family and consider them to be their best friends.
