The book suggests that none of the concepts found at the core of baseball are found in these early games that came from Europe. Some findings include the suggestion that 1884 is the moment baseball becomes baseball; that the word "base" does not mean "base" as in "baseball" found in pre-1828 documents; that using the category of "bat-and-ball" creates research issues; and that none of these games that came from Europe "carry the core concepts" found at the heart of baseball.
