The book is about a twenty six year old woman in the gothic victorian era of London who is cursed to see in black and white until she meets her soulmate.

After an attack leaves her almost dead, she reaches for the grim reapers hand only to find she sees red after doing so.

Vespera is left to find her soulmate and try to not be attacked by the man hunting her once more.
