Vanessa is gone - killed in a terrorist attack in Paris - and her father, Paul Greene, can't cope. He packs up his life in Australia and moves to France to feel closer to her. Eventually he settles in the south, but his life soon becomes nothing more than one long, drunk afternoon by the sea.
