Jeanie Miller is a twelve-year-old girl and a senior in high school. She has long struggled to fit in with both those her own age and her older classmates. When her family is forced to relocate when her father, a defense contractor, is transferred, Jeannie sees the change as an opportunity to finally make friends her own age. She immediately befriends her new next-door neighbors, Jimmy and Annie, twins that are also twelve.

On what was supposed to be a lazy afternoon cruising the local mall with her new friends, Jeannie overhears two men planning a terrorist plot but only her two new friends believe her story and together they are determined to stop the attack. They know they need help, so they devise a plan to hire their own spies online.
