Years passed and Esperanza's dream materialized when she married an American man and, though unable to speak English, moved to America as a new bride. Almost immediately, her lifelong dream turned into a horrible nightmare, and she was forced to pay an unthinkable price.

Esperanza was like a rose with broken thorns, beautiful and utterly defenseless against the barbaric onslaught of emotional and physical abuse inflicted on her by a ruthless predator who was now her husband. Day after day, for years, this man ruthlessly victimized his beautiful bride.

In time, God intervened. Esperanza became a Christian, and a miraculous transformation took place in her life. God gave His beautiful rose supernatural thorns to protect her from predators so she could fulfill her purpose in life while giving God all the glory! Through His mercy, this beautiful rose opened to reveal blossoms with lovely layers of God's grace and a sweet aroma of the power of love and forgiveness. Being called by God, Esperanza longed to return to the place she once desperately dreamed of escaping.

Esperanza, now in her senior years, recounts her powerful and heart-wrenching journey from victim to victor. Her life represents a legacy of sacrifice and faithfulness through the establishment of the Santa Fe Mission in San Antonio Suchitepéquez, Guatemala, Central America.
