Emma is left stranded on the Missouri frontier after her parents' untimely death. Found by a native brave named Akocha, Emma is soon adopted into a native tribe where she struggles to fit in. Emma finds new friends in the Chickasaw tribe but also new enemies.
Emma is attacked by a brave while on a fishing trip. Akocha rushes her to a nearby town for a doctor where he is unjustly accused of beating Emma.
Tensions rise between the tribe and the townspeople who think that Emma shouldn't live with the Chickasaw. The tribe has become Emma's home and its people her family. Why can't the townspeople understand that God doesn't look at outward appearances but the heart?
