Tami the Trauma Ambi was a full-service emergency vehicle providing and managing care for injured patients in Staten Island New York at Richmond University Medical Center. After years of service, the ambulance was removed from active patient transportation and sitting unused. In order to revamp the ambulance to be utilized for community outreach, the Trauma Department adopted the ambulance to fix any mechanical issues to help her run again Once the Ambulance was repaired the design and exterior work was performed and Tami the Trauma Ambi was created. The exterior design was created to bring the character to life. IT helped to equip the back of the ambulance with a computer and television that could be utilized for education, injury prevention and community outreach events. Tami the Trauma Ambi offers the opportunity for individuals to tour a patient care ambulance and see and play with the medical equipment used along with providing an array of education relevant to injuries seen in the emergency department. Utilizing Tami the Trauma Ambi, mannequins, PowerPoint presentations, and a fully-stocked ambulance, the Trauma Team at Richmond University Medical Center has provided many different educational opportunities including pedestrian safety discussions and injury prevention initiatives throughout the Staten Island community.
