Artist Nina Sudja's motivation to draw and paint comes always from a place of ecocentrism, and astonishment at how beautiful the universe is. This body of watercolor paintings is an exercise in painting flowing imagery, quickly. Watercolor's tendency to run and merge freely, with the guidance of a loosely held brush, allows for making rapid decisions while losing the need to make paintings precious. Instead, the goal is to be gestural and bold. Absence of bright color in this series of pen drawings works to bring focus to tight, vibrant, strong design that echoes intricate pattern and texture remembered from the natural world outside.
