Sammy Baker, with the aid of his magic typewriter, is taken on another fantastical journey back in time. He is transported to 1960 and finds himself sitting in the Red Sox dugout next to the great Ted Williams, reputed to be the best hitter of all time. Sammy is astonished to discover he is the team's batboy.
The typewriter had been a birthday gift from Sammy's grandpa, who knows all too well of its magical powers. This time he suggested that Sammy use it to write an essay about Ted Williams, knowing another adventure would be in store for his grandson. As he did before Sammy's last trip, he gave him a mission: get an interview with "Teddy Ballgame," something he'd never accomplished as a sportswriter for a New Hampshire newspaper. Sammy wonders how he will ever do that. He is only twelve years old
