6A Sound Mind is a true story. As a licensed mental health counselor for 24 years I have seen and heard just about everything. When I met the protagonist that day in the hospital after her suicide attempt and listened to her horrific history I vowed to see her pro bono indefinitely. I called her Sara Tonin after the happiness neurotransmitter serotonin but she was severely depressed. As a child Sara had been gifted and talented, excelling in music, art, creative writing, dancing and drama. She scored at age 14, highest ever on the Science Aptitude Test in Atlanta. Behind closed doors she was physically and emotionally abused by her parents and rejected by jealous siblings. At 15 Sara was banned from home and forced at 16, to marry an inappropriate husband. Adolescent mother Sara purposed to understand, appreciate and facilitate her children despite that their father was average IQ and cruel. After stabilization through counseling for her PTSD, Depression and Anxiety She read and evaluated all the major religions and philosophies of the world but none healed her broken life. Sara came face to face with Jesus Christ when reading John 14:6 Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life. It was the hope she needed to rise above the pain and madness of this world and find a higher purpose for herself. I supported her through multiple marriages and divorces as she struggled to find belonging 'with a human' beyond her rejecting and abandoning family. She ultimately became: college professor, professional artist, writer and licensed mental health counselor herself. Her children became: Carnegie Hall musician, Artist and also Olympics finalist, and high profile Scientist. God granted Sara her heart's desire in her later years.
