0Who is Maya? That is the question. Who is Maya & how is it possible that she can feel so many different things, be so many different things, all at once? Me vs. Myself is a powerful collection of poetry about black girl adolescence, written by fourteen-year-old Austinite, Maya Craft. Through her poems, Maya takes on different characters and writes from a variety of perspectives, but most often she writes from her own. Themes she explores through her poetry include love, loneliness, confidence, depression, hope, fear, family, loss, betrayal, resilience, being a girl, being black, and finding herself. Me vs. Myself is less about answering questions than it is about experiencing them. There is no right or even static answer. And yet, in these poems, with fierceness, sweetness, clarity, and power, Maya makes herself known.
