Smallvoice is a curious Chickadee who lives with his overprotective parents on a farm. Through the farm runs a long, dirt road with an old, wooden fence. The road separates the Chickadee's birdhouse from a sprawling, wide-open meadow with enough food for all four seasons. There's just one problem; across the fence stands a big, red barn where a hungry owl is always perched.

Smallvoice is warned never to go past the fence, but his inner guidance urges him otherwise. Through an unexpected turn of events, he and his family learn a startling secret about that fabled owl that will transform life as they know it.
