I AM Valuable is a true story about the life of Dr. Deshunna Monay Ricks when she was a child. Dr. Ricks lived with her parents until she was five. When she turned eight, she and her siblings were placed into the foster care system. Dr. Ricks and her sister were placed at the same home and her oldest brother was placed at a different home. A few months into the foster care system, Dr. Ricks and her siblings were placed with her paternal grandmother. Although Dr. Ricks was in a loving home with relatives she wanted to be with her parents. Dr. Ricks experienced a lot of sadness and trauma due to being removed from her parents. She felt sad, alone, and she did not love herself. Dr. Ricks doubted herself and developed a negative self-image. She did not embrace who she was at a young age because she did not know how to. I AM Valuable depicts how Dr. Ricks was able to overcome the loneliness and emptiness of being placed in the foster care system through her faith in God. I AM Valuable provides encouragement to children all over the world who experience adversity, hardships, and obstacles; especially to those who are placed in foster care.
