6The all-new Women of the World Calendar features 12 women of color who rewrote the rules. In a time when women are grabbing the spotlight, it's also time for a calendar that inspires the current and next generation of women who go against the grain by challenging the status quo. In New Internationalist's Women of the World Calendar, we present a collection of 12 inspiring women who have rewritten the rules in the art, film, political and literary worlds. In the interest of bringing to light women of color in particular, the 2021 calendar features: - Bernardine Evaristo, author (UK) - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author (Nigeria/US) - Genesis Butler, vegan activist (US) - June Jordan, poet (Jamaica/US) - Kristal Ambrose, environmentalist (Bahamas) - Liv Little, editor (UK) - Maggie Aderin-Pocock, space scientist (UK) - Miriam Makeba, musician (South Africa) - Nadia Murad, activist (Iraq) - Opal Tometi, co-founder of Black Lives Matter (Nigeria/US) - Linda Sarsour, political activist (Palestine/US) - Winona LaDuke, conservationist (US) The calendar is illustrated by a single artist whose bold approach makes the calendar not only inspiring but art-like in its style. The 2021 illustrator is London-based Nadia Akingbule. Her portraits are based on photographs that best represent the women's personalities and take inspiration from their backgrounds. Each month will feature one woman, one inspirational quote and information about their lives.
