Steve Tunnicliffe spent his adolescent childhood years in the country before it descended into chaos. He encountered traditions, customs, and practices that predate Islam, many of which are likely to have vanished by now. He witnessed the beauty of a country with a deep cultural heritage that stretches far beyond the shores of the Indian Ocean.

Back then, as it is today, living in Somalia was challenging and complex, but he and his family made the most of it and reaped the rewards.
