averkorn uncovers the history of law enforcement in early Colorado Springs. From Wild West serial killers, turn-of-the-century gangs, Roaring 20s robbers, and depression-era desperadoes, Dwight looks at the history of crime, forensic science, and the men of Colorado Springs' early police department.

Haverkorn was sworn into the Colorado Springs Police Department in 1968 and served till 1982. After a brief period, he returned again to the department in 1983. In the late 1970s, he investigated 25 homicides, identified 14 individuals through fingerprints, and testified as a fingerprint expert. He became an investigator for the Police Legal Office until 1987. He then served in the City Attorney's office in many capacities ending his career as a Litigation Specialist. He retired in 2003.
