Brown Like Me was written from a place of self-worth, self-recognition, and most importantly, self-love. This tale allows brown children the opportunity to explore all of the wonderful things that reflect the beauty and necessity of the color brown. Not only does this story allow Black children to embrace their blackness in all of its wonder, it also allows children of all races and ethnicities to become more aware and accepting of others who may not look the same as them.
Peer through the eyes of the young Black child and see what has been graced and influenced by their cocoa-kissed touch. Every child should have the opportunity to see a positive representation of themselves. Every Black child should be able to say, "Look! She's brown like me!"
