Healing Childhood Sexual Abuse: An Art Therapist's Journey follows Ann Owen's journey in healing her childhood sexual abuse. Owen's father abused her when she was a young child. Decades later, she earned two master's degrees, in fine art and expressive art therapy and taught art. When counseling she used art as part of her healing practice. With Owen's own paintings, Healing Childhood Sexual Abuse offers others examples of how creative artmaking can provide a safe technique for holding and exploring emotions. When strong feelings are outside the body yet in a safe container, healing may be facilitated. These paintings encourage people to explore emotions when words are not enough or cannot be spoken. The images could help readers remember things forgotten or may reveal situations too scary to speak aloud. Owen's ideas and techniques for healing complement each painting.
