Madeleine is said to be the most popular children's book in France. It is also somewhat popular in English speaking countries.
Please note the difference in spelling. Madeline in English has an extra letter "e" in Madeleine in French.
The book is about an old house in Paris that was covered with vines where lived twelve little girls in two straight lines. The book follows the daily adventures of Madeline, a 7-year-old girl attending a boarding school in Paris with eleven other girls, under the care of their teacher, Miss Clavel.
The book consists of drawings including of famous places in Paris.
