ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

An ancestral secret, the lives of two women who meet, the history of a country and its wars.

From the darkness of the desert, a Raramuri woman announces to Helena that her daughter, who disappeared years ago, will return. That same morning, Julia, absorbed in a series of personal banishments, has a car accident on the highway.

While her husband receives the remains of the woman he believes to be his wife, Julia is hidden in a shack on the side of the highway. Through shards of memory, in a body that wavers between life and death, she wanders between a series of voices and stories; of decisions that distort the sense of her life.

For her part, Helena personifies the exiles of the history of 20th-century Mexico, events that stayed on the edge of the official history. Through the outrageous retelling of her tales, we see four generations of women, other Mexican revolutions, migrants, violence, the country of "the disappeared," impunity, and dementia.

Exiles is a crossing of narratives, but we see ourselves in those other bodies. Gabriela Riveros gets us on board with her poetic style and marvelous writing, so that we review our own exiles and geography alongside her characters.
