Despair (Spanish: Veinte poemas de amor y una canciĆ³n desesperada) is a collection of romantic poems by the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, first published in 1924. This work launched into the international spotlight a young and unknown poet whose writings would ignite a generation. It remains one of the most celebrated and admired books of erotic poetry published in the last hundred years, with over a million copies sold worldwide. Neruda was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1971.
