2Shades of Blue is a collection of poetry, fifty-five poems, amassed throughout my time treating the page as my therapist. To me, a shade of blue is the outline of emotion never thought to have a shape; a description of sadness, a divulging of grief that is so unknowingly common, giving it a name is more than reasonable.
Sometimes, within turmoil, we see our grief as an enigma individual to ourselves. Still, despite such naivety, that same turmoil exists in those around us too. It is in every shade of blue, named as such or not, that I hope to find community. Though not every poem is labeled as a shade, what state of emotion each one of them captures is something I'm sure has been felt by someone other than me. The idea that any suffering is unique is in itself alienating. To believe you are alone is what creates the true distance between ourselves and those around us.
Let me reiterate now. To me, a shade of blue is an understanding that you are not alone. The divulging of despair, a confession of hurt, feelings being seen as they could never be otherwise. Such a beautifully depressing color inside us all, one whose intricacies are far less overbearing than they seem. Thousands might not relate to my words, but someone will, and it's within that miracle of human interaction, that either me or you, might finally be seen. It is in many that the deeper you burrow the more abundant it is, as I'd just described it, that beautifully depressing blue.
