4I am actually a firm believer that food should be represented in all types of media, especially movies. People must eat! Whether they are fighting Orcs, swinging from the shoulders of Ents or being taken hostage by a giant spider. In the Lord of the Rings movies, indeed, there are many scenes where food and drink are enjoyed by many Hobbit, Dwarf and Elf.

Food can certainly be used as a source of humor such as the many meals of the Hobbits and the drinking contest between Legolas and Gimli. These scenes are designed to show the humanity of the characters and the bonds that form between these unlikely travel companions. When they are breaking bread is when we truly fall in love with them all.
