7Candace Amber Owens Farmer is an American conservative author, commentator, and political activist. Initially critical of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party, Owens has become known for her increasingly pro-Trump activism as a black woman, in addition to her criticism of Black Lives Matter and the Democratic Party. She worked for the conservative advocacy group Turning Point USA between 2017 and 2019 as its communications director. The lights must be low, the music deafening, the bass thumping - this isn't your grandmother's Republican blender. No, really: Candace Owens knows that the grandmothers of the people coming most probably vote Democratic. Their parents most likely do, too. For hell's sake, the people who've shown up no uncertainty did as well, unthinkingly, before they opened their eyes and their ears and their minds. Even more reason for things to pop, which is the reason Owens, a 29-year-old rising traditional star and communications chief for conservative understudy group Turning Point USA, is agitatedly giving directions to the team at the Globe Theater in downtown Los Angeles. This is the inaugural rally of Blexit, her three-month-old campaign to encourage African Americans (and Latinos, and different minorities) to leave the Democratic Party - that is, mount a massive "black exit" from the left. For a really long time, Owens tells me, African Americans have been "mentally oppressed" on the Democratic plantation, and it's about time that they turned out to be "free." "Sixty years black people have been voting the equivalent. What have we gotten back?" she says. "That's the plantation. We accomplish the work, we ensure you get chose like clockwork. You get the force, and we get absolutely nothing back."
