My husband and I planned a cross-country road trip to Florida from Denver, CO.  We planned this drive to visit family, but truth be told, mostly to break the monotony that COVID has imposed on our lives.  Yes, safety first, but off we went!  I mention this trip in the context of having to pack weather-appropriate, semi-casual, and versatile clothing for hot weather.  In this regard, I decided to spruce-up my wardrobe and purchase some summer tops online.  Through a Google search for tee-shirts, I came across a few websites that offered fantastic looking stuff.  Well, that is until a closer examination of the websites themselves and the reviews of its products by existing buyers revealed another story.  I and probably millions of other people were smitten by the pretty pictures and affordable prices... However, it turns out there has been a flood of SCAM websites that "look" professional/legitimate that are blatantly misrepresenting merchandise and scamming buyers with bait and switch tactics. 

Ladies, we've all been there. We take a chance on purchasing clothing and accessories online and hope to receive the advertised item. What we expect when purchasing online is to be dealing with a reputable merchant that is transparent, offers delivery options, and is accessible via email or phone.  Unfortunately, what many of us have encountered as of late is a wave of SCAM sites that are set up to snare your money and information. Most if not all of the scam sites have stolen photos from bloggers, legit stores, or social media profiles. If you are not certain about a website, look for reviews on Google or trusted sites, i.e., SiteJabber or TrustPilot.

As one productreview.com/customer put it "the clothes are not fit for the bin."  The bait and switch practices are insulting and it makes me angry for so many reasons, especially when I think of the many people that have made a purchase and are now stuck with the polyester imposters because the return policy of these sites is more complicated than a chess match with the Norwegian chess champion, Sven Magnus Carlsen. 

These sites fall in the scam category and as such any personal information captured on them is in danger of being compromised.  All of them have the same modus operandi.   Keep your distance from them, and never share your information with them. 

The scammers typically: 

• take your money and follow up with an email and a fake tracking # to appear that the item has shipped.
• do not send anything ever or send an inferior bait and switch product that vaguely resembles the advertised product.
• when confronted, the sellers offer the buyer a discount on items they already purchased rather than honor their return policy. 
• make the return policy impossible by implementing an approval process favoring the seller's undisclosed policies.
